Winter is over and Spring is here but we are looking at all heavy, warm winter things. If you have space in your house to remove winter items from your closet and change bins out from your storage, that is the best way to feel like a new season has sprung since your closet will look new again. If you don’t have items elsewhere stored for the change of seasons, we can still make these three simple changes in your closet that will help you get ready for the new season.
Bins
Boots and sweaters seem to be the largest items to keep us warm in the winter and that we will not be using until the next winter. Items that you absolutely won’t use for Spring and Summer are the items you want to either store in another place or replace the bins you already have and put them at the top or rear of your closet.
Shoe Rack
So many to pick from and the one I found that I love the best has the following:
- holds 16 men shoes, 32 women
- collapses and/or stacks
- <$25 Walmart – Better Homes and Garden
Funny story
Pink sweater: do you have an item in your closet that you like how it looks on the hanger, take it out, put it on and then put it back on the hanger? I have done this with a pink sweater (I don’t even like pink and can’t think of why I even bought it) but it stayed in my closet for over two years, actually until I did this video and I finally donated it to someone who will love it. The key to getting rid of these types of things is to put it in the bag I’ll talk about next.
Discard Bag:
- Don’t like color
- Doesn’t fit
- Doesn’t look good
- Out of date
- Just too old or never warn
Once these types of items get put in the discard bag you can decide how long they need to stay in it, and see how you won’t miss it, before you donate them. If you have the time to go through your entire closet, touching each piece of clothing and deciding if it ‘brings you joy’ as Marie Kondo says if it does, you keep it, if it does not – donate. You will see just how many items are in your closet that you really don’t wear or need.
It’s worth taking the time at least once a year to switch the seasonal clothes and go through what you have. You should only have things you love or items that bring you joy in your closet you use every day. I hope you can use some of these ideas.
